Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Some are necessary to make the site work. Others tell us which pages people actually read. This page lists what we set and how to refuse it.
Strictly necessary cookies
These make the site function. Without them, things break, so they cannot be switched off.
- Session and security cookies. Set by WordPress and by our security firewall to keep the site safe and to log in administrators.
- Caching cookies. Set by LiteSpeed Cache so pages load faster and so the right version of a page is served to you.
- Language preference. If you switch language, we remember your choice so you do not have to pick it again on every page.
Analytics cookies
These tell us what is worth writing more of. They are not used to identify you personally.
- Google Analytics 4, connected through Site Kit. Measures pages viewed, approximate location, device, and how you arrived. Google’s own policy governs their handling of this data.
- Jetpack Stats, provided by Automattic. Basic traffic counts.
Third-party cookies we do not control
- Affiliate merchants. If you click an affiliate link in an article, the merchant may set a cookie so they can attribute a sale to us. That cookie is theirs, set on their terms, and we never see your purchase details beyond a commission record. See our Site Disclosure.
- Embedded content. Videos or embeds from other platforms may set their own cookies once you interact with them.
How to refuse cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break parts of the site. Blocking analytics cookies will not: the site works exactly the same, we just learn less.
